Unless you are from one of the smaller Caribbean islands, you will need a visa before entering Antigua and Barbuda. To get an Antiguan visa, you have to apply through a diplomatic mission or online. Antigua and Barbuda diplomatic missions abroad issue visas to visitors, but applicants may also apply indirectly through a U.K. diplomatic mission in some cases. Visa-exempt visitors are excluded from holding visas and are free to stay on the island for as long as they wish.
Visitors coming on cruise ships normally don’t need visas if they will depart on the same day they arrive. However, they must get a visa in advance if they wish to spend more than 24 hours.
The visa exemption program is open to visitors from countries that appear on the Antigua and Barbuda Visa Waiver list. Visa-free visitors can stay for 6 months or one month, depending on their nationality, while citizens of other Caribbean islands are free to stay indefinitely. This visa waiver program is dynamic but subject to change in light of regulations, so endeavor to check the current list to know if you will need a visa or not.
The Electronic Entry Visa, or EEV, is an entry document issued to eligible visitors online. This visa doesn’t require a physical application, nor do you have to make long trips to a consular office to get it. The initiative is designed to fast-track applications and ease visa collections, especially since few consulates exist worldwide. After submitting the application form, successful applicants will receive their visas online, and once they arrive on the island, their biometrics will be taken, and their visas and passports will be stamped to validate both.
Here are additional details about the EEV of Antigua and Barbuda.
Solely For Short Visits: The first thing you should know is that the EEC is solely for short visits of 90 days. You can only use it for a short time; it is only valid for 180 days. If you wish to stay on the island for much longer, you will need to apply for a long-term visa at a foreign mission.
Where To Apply: You cannot apply for this visa inside Antigua and Barbuda. You must submit your application when you are outside the country in advance of your trip.
Passport: Only a passport with at least 6 months validity will be accepted for the application.
Also, be informed that the passport you arrive in Antigua and Barbuda with must be the same one you used for the application. The passport is linked to your visa, and the immigration officers on duty will request to see both, but if they don’t match, you will be denied entry.
Not For Work: The Antigua and Barbuda EEV is not for work. Even if you visit for business, it must be for a noncommercial engagement that will not earn you direct pay for service rendered. There is a special work visa for those looking to migrate for employment.
Approved Routes: You are only allowed to enter through approved routes, namely the V.C. Bird international airport and the three approved seaports and harbor on the island. If you attempt to enter through an alternative route, that will be equivalent to illegal entry, and you will be sanctioned.
Not Extendable: You should also note that this online visa is not extendable, so once you arrive, endeavor to plan and execute your itinerary perfectly so you can leave before it expires. If you must spend a longer time, you have two options: exit and re-apply for a new EEV or apply for a long-stay visa.
Travelers to Antigua and Barbuda can visit the island if they have an e-visa issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through an online medium. Going the online route is by far the easiest way to obtain a visa in record time. Are you looking to travel to Antigua and Barbuda anytime soon?
